A study of SGPT and ¥ã-GT P activity in various hepatic disease

Abstract
The SGPT/¢®-GPT ratios were observed in 20 cases of normal subjects as control group and 109 cases of various hepatic disease group including 20 cases of acute viral hepatitis(A. V. H. ), 12 cases of chronic hepatitis(C. H. ), 8 cases of chronic active hepatitis group(C.A.H.), 37 cases of liver cirrhosis(L.C.), 15 cases of hepatoma(H.T.), 8 cases of liver abscess(L.A.) and 9 cases of gall.. stone. Comparison of SGPT/¢®-GTP ratios between the control group and various hepatic disease groups were also observed.
The results were as follows:
(1) The SGPT/¢®-GTP ratio was 0.89¡¾0.65 in normal control group, 5.13--3.45 in A. V. H. group, 1.31¡¾1.29 in C. H. group, 2.29¡¾1.29 in C. A. H. group, 1.01¡¾1.43 in L. C. group, 0.39¡¾0.32 in H. T. group, 0.43¡¾0.24 in L. A. group and 0.45¡¾0.39 in gall stone group.
(2) The SGPT/¢®-GTP ratio was elevated significantly in A.V.H. and C. H. group including histologically proven C.A.H. group compared with normal control group, but the SGPT/¢®-GTP ratio was decreased significantly in H.T., L. A. and gall stone group compared with normal control group. There were no significant differences of SGPT/¢®-GTP ratios in L.C. group compared with normal control group.
(3) The SGPT/¢®-GTP ratio was elevated significantly in A.V.H. group compared with other hepatic disease groups and C. H. group including C.A.H. group compared with other hepatic disease groups except L.C. group. There were no significant differences of SGPT/2-GTP ratios in C.H. group compared with L.C. group, and between H.T. group, L. A. group and gall stone group.
(4) Marked decrement of SGPT/¢®-GTP ratios with sharply elevated alkaline phosphatase activities may suggest hepatoma, liver abscess and gall stone.
